As the first urban railway line in Hanoi, it is expected to alleviate traffic issues and improve transportation conditions for city residents.

The Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) starts running at 8.00AM. on Thursday (8th Aug 2024), and from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on subsequent days, with trains arriving every 10 minutes. Free rides will be offered for the first 15 days.
After that, the standard monthly fare will be 200,000 VND (8 USD). A 50% discount will be available for students and industrial workers. The ticket will be 140,000 VND for those purchasing group tickets of 30 or more. Single journey tickets will be priced at 24,000 VND, allowing unlimited travel for the day.Tickets for travel between stations will range from 8,000 VND to 12,000 VND. A day pass with unlimited rides costs 24,000 VND. Meanwhile, free rides are still offered to children under six, revolution contributors and the elderly aged over 60 years old.

Especially, young people are very excited about the small, round train tickets featuring the Khuê Văn Các—the iconic symbol of Hanoi city.

This high level of interest reflects the public’s enthusiasm and the significant demand for modern public transit. The line connects key areas such as Cầu Giấy, Chua Ha (Ha pagoda – a very famous pagoda in the city), Minh Khai, Vietnam National University and Nhổn, helping to ease congestion on existing routes and enhance travel efficiency in the city.
The 1st metro line of Vietnam is the Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro line. Notably, nine bus routes connect the Cát Linh-Hà Đông and Nhổn-Hà Nội Railway Station lines, meeting approximately 15-30 per cent of the total travel demand along the route.

This development is a crucial step in modernizing Hanoi's public transportation system and is part of the broader plan to expand metro and urban railway lines in the future.
