If you've ever walked by Truc Bach Lake in Hanoi's West Lake area, you've likely been intrigued by a small temple nestled among ancient trees, their branches casting dappled shadows. This is Thuy Trung Tien Temple, be known as Vietnamese spiritual culture worshipping the Deity of Dog. So, in the past, it had another name “Cau Nhi temple” (Puppy temple).

According to ancient legend, before Ly Cong Uan became a king, there was a dog in Co Phap Prefecture (now part of Tu Son town, Bac Ninh province) that gave birth to a white puppy with black spots forming the characters "Thien tu" (Heaven's child), corresponding to this event (since King Ly Thai To was born in the Year of the Dog). As a result, the King had a temple built to worship this dog, which was later moved to Truc Bach Lake island and has remained there to this day.

Upon entering through the triple gate, tourists can easily see the intimate connection of the temple with invisible threads of memories from the ancient capital. The architectural elements within the temple are reconstructed in the style of the Ly dynasty, featuring numerous reliefs and statues related to the deity of dogs.

In August 2017, Thuy Trung Tien Temple was officially inaugurated after a period of restoration and was designated as a historical relic at the city level. Located in a picturesque setting within the scenic area of West Lake and Truc Bach Lake, the temple attracts many tourists from both inside and outside the country to visit. Especially on full moon days, the first day of the lunar month, and during festivals, many people come to this temple to pray for health, luck, and peace.
