THE BEST TIME FOR TRAVELLING TO VIETNAM
Skimming through many social media platforms and chat groups, you can come across many questions regarding the weather in Vietnam, prompting enquiries about the best time for travelling to Vietnam, and when is the most beautiful time to travel to each region in Vietnam... Thus, Asian Moonlight Travel is writing this post to share with you our experience about weather in Vietnam.
Vietnam is an independent country located on the Indochina peninsula, in the Southeast of Asia. Our country has an S- shape, narrow width and runs from the North to the South. The distance between the two northernmost and southernmost points of the country is 1,650km2.
Vietnam's terrain is diverse: mountains, plains, coasts and continental shelves, reflecting a long history of geological and topographic development in a monsoon, hot and humid environment, with strong weathering. The terrain gradually lowers in the northwest - southeast direction, clearly shown by the flow direction of large rivers. So, the weather in each region will not be the same. Hereafter is a brief overview of each region for your reference (it can be little change in each year because of climate change):
- Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Halong…)
December - March: cool to cold, misty, cloudy. It’s considered as winter in Northern Vietnam.
April - June: warm to hot, clear skies, sunny days.
June - August: hot, humid, rainy
September - November: cool, clear skies, sunny days. It’s considered as autumn with beautiful days.
- Central Vietnam (Hue, Danang, Hoian, Nhatrang…)
November - February: cool to cold, rainy, cloudy
March - October: warm to hot, sunny, clear skies
The best time to visit the coastal cities in Central Vietnam is from May – September, less rain but quite hot. It’s suitable for water activities.
- Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh, Mekong delta, Mui Ne, Phu Quoc…)
May to September: sporadic rainfall, hot, humid
October to April: clear skies, hot, sunny days
June to August can be particularly hot and humid, especially in southern destinations like Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. The wet season brings a dependable afternoon downpour, usually lasting a few hours.
à Despite the rain, this can still be a good time to visit Vietnam, as the countryside becomes lush and green, and the rain usually comes in short.
Traveling during these wet months can offer some cost savings and a more relaxed atmosphere at popular tourist sites.
Ultimately, the best time to visit Vietnam depends on your interests, preferred activities, and tolerance for weather conditions. It's also essential to consider regional variations in climate when planning your trip. If you're visiting multiple regions, you may need to prioritize weather conditions in each area to ensure an enjoyable experience.
